forgot to post these, whoops

This is the miniature quilt I made this summer, in hopes of being displayed in a special doll quilt exhibit at the Houston Festival. I posted a preview before, but I wanted to share the whole thing now that there’s no high stakes judging going on! She’s about ten inches square & fits onto that little bed my Steven built for me. We actually went out into a field & cut down a tree to make it! Haha He is soooo proud of that bed, let me tell you! He feverishly worked on it for two days straight. Anyways, the quilt was appliqued by machine with tiny blanket stitches & then quilted with a McTavishing design that I will never attempt at such a small scale EVER again. The flowers and buds were then free-motion sketched in white thread on white fabric and cut out. I immediately didn’t like them, so I grabbed a marker and painted them hot pink. Then I tacked each of them down in the middle to leave the edges loose & three dimensional. But the end of the story is that she didn’t get picked to be in the special exhibit. :’-( So, in lieu of Houston, she’ll just have to settle for prettying up my blog….

prepping for houston

It’s been a goal of mine to be at Quilt Market, but I wasn’t able to make that happen this year. Le sigh. However, I do make it to Festival every year & this time I’m taking a quilting design class with Hollis Chatelain. I’m supposed to bring a finished quilt top to class & I’ve been scurrying around trying to find something I won’t be embarrassed to show her! Lol I’ve completely finished my Hot Lips quilt top, so I’m taking that with me, but I also want to bring something more arty. I mean, it’s Hollis Chatelain! So, I sketched up a pictorial scene & completed a vector illustration & full-sized pattern on my computer. Will I pull it off?? Appliquéing a 45″ art quilt in a week? I’ll either have something amazingly cute to share or they’ll be dragging me off to the looney bin! Anyways, happy quilting!!!!! -rebecca

silly bands for a serious cause

I’ve finished quilting and binding my ruby silly bands quilt to donate to a silent auction. I learned that one of the guys I went to school with, Cameron Hollars, lost his little girl from complications following open heart surgery. She was just a few weeks shy of her second birthday (Oct. 13th) when she passed away & my heart is broken for Cameron & his wife. So, when I learned that his friends are putting on a fundraiser to help pay for her funeral & medical expenses, I decided to donate this quilt to the cause. Now, let’s hope the postal service can get it to Oklahoma in time for the auction! -rebecca
